Child Abuse Policy

The Weehawken Board of Education believes that the physical and mental well being of all children in its charge must be maintained as a prerequisite to achievement through the formal educational process. School district personnel will cooperate with the New Jersey Division of Youth and Family Services (DYFS) in identifying, immediate reporting and investigation of all suspected cases of child abuse and neglect.

New Jersey law requires that any person having reasonable cause to believe that a child has been subjected to acts of abuse shall report it immediately and directly to NJ State Central Registry 1-877-652-2873. The law further requires the district to notify the local police department in all cases referred to DYFS [18A:36-25; 9:6-8:10].

The North Hudson Office of DYFS is located at:
Gateway Plaza 1 Harmon Meadow Plaza 4th floor
Secaucus, NJ 07094
