Dear Weehawken Families,
Throughout the past few months, the district faculty, staff, and administration began collaborating and examining the task of reopening our schools. In addition, the board of education trustees and, you, the families in our community played a vital role in creating this plan. The district would like to thank you for your willingness to participate in virtual and phone surveys that we used to assist us in the planning process. Please remember that the information provided or choice made is not binding and you have the ability to alter your decision of participating in a hybrid model or complete virtual setting at any time.
The guidelines released by the New Jersey Department of Education on June 26th 2020 “The Road Back: Restart and Recovery Plan for Education” includes directives regarding health, instructional, and social-emotional considerations which the district is using to guide decision making. Furthermore on July 24th, the New Jersey Department of Education announced while a school district must open for in-person instruction, an all remote learning option must be offered for families by all school districts in New Jersey. While this directive was made on July 24th at no time was our district not going to offer a remote option for our families that are anxious about the return to school.
The district has created two different slide presentations to begin informing our families about the upcoming year. The district slide presentation is the foundation for our planning and preparation of the upcoming school year. This was used as the road map for our school specific presentations that can also be found on our district website at www.weehawken.k12.nj.us. Information for the overall district plan can be found here: https://tinyurl.com/WTSD2020.
Information for each school’s more specific plans can be found here: https://tinyurl.com/SchoolSpecific2020.
On Monday August 10th, the district will be mailing information regarding school openings. This letter will contain information on new school specific protocols and accessing information for cohort/virtual models. In addition, district Real-Time log-in information will be sent to ensure all families have access to important information.
Again, thank you for assisting us in providing the best possible scenario and experiences for the start of school in September. It is important to know the plans are fluid and may be changed as we receive more information from the New Jersey Department of Education, medical data, and information from our families and staff. As always, please feel free to contact me with any questions or feedback.
